We know from statistics that only two in five women over 50 are getting enough exercise. That means three in five women of a certain age (or 60%) are not getting the minimum recommended amount. Think about that for a minute.
How much is enough? Women and men over 50 should be getting at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week (e.g. walking) or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise (e.g. jogging or running).
The exercise you do now pays you forward, improving your quality of life later on. It could make the difference as to whether you can climb stairs, carry groceries, open a tomato sauce jar, or enjoy a walking tour of Paris.
I spoke with two women, Tanya Dalton and Jo Pybus, who are inspiring but also practical. Both women have completed an Iron Man competition which is no mean feat. Tania and Jo are also advocates for menopause awareness and healthy ageing. They have hacked exercise as midlife women and have tamed the beast that lives in us all, procrastination.
Remember, it's never too late for you to get started on fitness for life.
